IB DP Pathway

The IB Diploma Programme (IB DP) Pathway at UCC offers Year 11 and 12 students academic breadth, depth and rigour along with a commitment to structured inquiry and experiential learning that educates the whole student. UCC has deep experience delivering the IB DP — it has been the academic program for our graduates since 1995.

Well respected by top-tier universities around the world, the IB DP prepares students for success at the postsecondary destinations of their choice.

By design, the DP is structured to ensure a broad, liberal education.

Students completing the full IB DP are required to complete the DP Core course, which includes Theory of Knowledge (TOK), the Extended Essay (EE), and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS).

In addition to the DP Core course, students must take three higher level (HL) courses and three standard level (SL) courses – one from each of the six subject groups:*

  • Language and Literature (Group 1)
  • Language Acquisition (Group 2)
  • Individuals and Societies (Group 3)
  • Sciences (Group 4)
  • Mathematics (Group 5)
  • Arts* (Group 6) – students may choose another course from one of the other subject groups in place of a course in the Arts

Graduates of this pathway earn both the IB Diploma and the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).
